I recently caught up with Inside-Running UKoffice recruited player, Ryan Jackson who is having a season in Holland, playing for Bassets RFC in the Holland Ereklasse league.
Below is an insight into how Ryan is settling into life in Holland:
Ryan, great to see you going well for Bassets. How are you finding Bassets as a club, and Holland as a country to be based in?
The Bassets are a great club with so many friendly people involved in the club willing to do a lot for you on and off the pitch. Holland is a great place to live so many friendly people in the country and everyone can speak English which is a big plus.
How are you finding the standard of rugby, in the Holland Ereklasse in comparison to where you have played before?
The standard is a bit below what I am used to but there are still some great players here playing from overseas and some great home grown talent.
Settling in, how have the club been on and off the field? They help you settle in once you joined for the season?
I have settled in great. The club have done everything they can to help me settle in on and off the field.
Any future advice for players looking to play in the Holland Ereklasse league in the future?
If any player is wanting to travel to play rugby, Holland is a great place to spend some time here playing and travelling as I know quite a few overseas players here who still haven’t gone back as they like it that much.
What are the challenges ahead for the remainder of the season, from an individual and team perspective?
The challenges for the team are to make the top six and compete with the top club which we have shown we can do that and only get better. As on my own game I’m just trying to be the best player I can be for the team making sure I’m hitting my line outs and scrum well then do my usual stuff around the field.
